The Auxiliary to Saanich Peninsula Hospital has been actively serving this hospital and this community since its inception in1974. The current membership of one hundred and fifteen dedicated volunteers support a variety of fundraising activities including their annual Christmas Bazaar, Bake Sales, Bridge Luncheons and the operation of the Hospital Gift Shop. As of September 2018, they have contributed a total of $1,920,283.49 for Hospital equipment, furnishings and patient care and comfort, and by June 2019, our goal is approximately two million;
This outstanding achievement represents much hard work, enthusiasm and dedication from our members, who are widely recognized throughout the community, serving in the Gift Shop, moving within the hospital, and selling Raffle tickets during summer and fall at various local venues.
In addition to fundraising the Auxiliary also provides services within the hospital, operation of our expanded Gift Shop, monthly Birthday Parties for Extended Care residents, and support for the Volunteen Group. Further community service is evidenced by their distribution of Emergency Kits to patients arriving unexpectedly at the emergency ward for treatment. Our members provide Public Relations and Receptionist services to the Mobile Screening Mammography Clinic which visits the Peninsula twice yearly. Two bursaries of $2,000. each are awarded annually to post-secondary students entering medically related fields.
Monthly meeting are held on the second Tuesday of the month from September to June in the Peninsula Health Unit, and new members are always welcome! Contact the Hospital Gift Shop for more information.
